A city located on the western coast of Gujarat, historically known as ‘Nawanagar’, presently known as ‘worlds oil city’ and one can say it is a city of cricketers. Cricket is a major sport in Jamnagar. A number of Indian Test cricketers originate from Jamnagar, including Vinoo Mankad, Salim Durani, Karshan Gadhvi, Kumar Indrajit Sinhji, Ajit Sinhji, Ranjit Sinhji, Duleep Sinhji, Ajay Jadeja and Ravindra Jadeja.

Indian cricket competions like Ranji Trophy and Duleep trophy are named in memory of princes of Jamnagar Kumar Shri Ranjit Sinhji and Kumar Shri Duleep Sinhji. Ranjit Sinhji was one of the greatest players. He was a pioneer of the ‘leg glance’, a shot he made by his own at a time when peolple could not even contemplate playing across the line. He made a history as the first Indian to play a test cricket represented England as a graceful batsman.

The Cricket Bunglow: Ajit Sinhji pavilion was constructed in 1908 and this cricket bunglow ground is the only home ground of Jamnagar from where the famous crickets are born. The present cricket coach of Jamnagar Mahendra Sinh Chauhan has made cricketers like Ravindra Jadeja and few other famous first class cricketers like Chirag Pathak and Balkrishna Jadeja who represented Saurastra Cricket Association(SCA) in Ranji trophy.

There is enormous talent in the city and they are working hard to continue the legacy of greatness in cricket from Saurastra region.
